Beautiful Sanwan Island in Puget Sound, northwestern Washington, USA. The island is one of Washington State's premier salmon fishing grounds. It is also a passageway for whales and killer whales, and is a famous spot for eco-tours, sea kayaking, and sailing to observe them. Mr. Barry Barr, the founder and president of KAVU, was born and raised in a family of fishermen on Sanwan Island, which is rich in nature. He started a salmon fishing company called ``Bristol Bay Boats'' when he was 17 years old. While working in harsh weather conditions, he came up with an idea. The goal was to create a sun visor that could withstand the harsh Alaskan environment, be sturdy, float on water, protect your eyes from strong sunlight, and be resistant to being blown away by strong winds while working on a boat. He began to put effort into establishing a company to realize this idea, and in 1993, established KAVU in Seattle. This sun visor idea later became KAVU's signature product as a ``strap cap''.
